Dating during a pandemic

Help, I’ve recently ended a four year relationship as we both wanted different things in life. I have gave myself time to heal and I am now ready to get back out there! Although because of the pandemic I can’t go out to pubs/clubs. Should I sign up for dating apps or wait until we can all go to the pubs/clubs to meet people?

Hey, thanks for getting in touch! Dating apps can be fun, they can be used to find potential partners or just as a confidence boost for yourself. It’s totally up to you!

Firstly, it is important to let yourself fully heal before diving into the dating scene again. It may seem weird or strange dating someone new, so giving yourself time alone and staying single is good to allow yourself time to recover and close that door behind you of your past relationship, ready to open another. Get out there!

The most common dating apps for young 20 somethings are: Tinder (we could have guessed that), Bumble and Hinge. Have fun swiping left and right!

If these online matches do lead to dates we have some top tips for you:

1.     You don’t owe them anything

This tip applies when you’re asked on a date, only go if you want to and feel like it would be safe, do not feel pressured. Always be aware as these people are still strangers, even though you may think you know them.

2.     Keep it simple

You don’t have to plan an elaborate day out. Sometimes a simple walk round the park or coffee trip is enough to ease you in to meeting someone new.

3.     Most importantly have fun!

Getting to know someone new can be fun, especially after the year we’ve all had. Enjoy it, don’t take it to seriously and see where life takes you. You don’t need to find your lifelong partner just now, don’t put pressure on yourself (or others), relax and enjoy it – see where life takes you.

P.S. dating should be fun, if at any point you feel pressured, unsafe or scared tell a friend and get out of that situation immediately. No relationship is worth risking your safety. Stay safe!
